Our March 2020 trip to Texas became a real adventure when COVID-19 was declared a pandemic midway into our trip. Conceived as a Christmas gift for Sandra, McKenna, and Audrey, we decided midstream to abort the part of the trip to Austin and San Antonio, deciding to trash the purchased airfare and drive the 1000 miles to return home. We dared not disregard the warnings about the rapidly developing COVID-19 pandemic, including the advice of leaders not to get on an airplane except for medical emergencies.
Thankfully, we accomplished most of our goals--the girls had their "Magnolia Experience" in Waco, McKenna finally made her first trip in an airplane, we experienced Dallas downtown, including lunch atop Reunion Tower, and we returned home safely before the pandemic began in earnest.
